Argentina is a federal republic located in southeastern South America. Sharing the bulk of the Southern Cone with its neighbour Chile, it is bordered by Bolivia and Paraguay to the north; Brazil to the northeast; Uruguay and the South Atlantic Ocean to the east; Chile to the west and the Drake Passage to the south.

The first potential case of Zika virus in Argentina was reported on 29 February 2016. A woman from Cordoba developed Zika virus Symptoms on 16 February. The case was confirmed at the Provincial Central Laboratory. The patient contracted the virus when she traveled in Colombia. Researchers believe that the virus could have been transmitted sexually.
