Zika virus in Venezuela

Venezuela has outbreak of the Zika virus. As of February 11, 2016, 319 confirmed cases of Zika virus were reported in Venezuela. A previous estimate said that 11 people died in the country due to complications of Zika virus.

Since the start of 2016, approximately 118,000 have contracted the virus. Dealing with the Zika virus in Venezuela could prove difficult because of the current economic crisis in the country coupled with the secrecy maintained by government on health data.

On 11 February, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said three people have died because of complications of Zika virus. The total number of Zika virus cases in the country reaches 319.
