The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is the leading national public health institute of the United States. The CDC has been researching on Zika virus since 2007 at its Fort Collins facility in Colorado.
Fort Collins
The Fort Collins facility of CDC is a specialized division focusing on vector-borne diseases. Research on Zika virus at the facility started in 2007. Called a ground zero for CDC Zika Virus research, the Fort Collins facility continued to do research on the effects and prevention of Zika virus since the outbreak in Brazil in 2015. It also trains experts around the world on how to handle the Zika virus.

On 12 February, Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo) and Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo) toured the CDC's Fort Collins facility as a show of bipartisan concern about the virus' national and global effects.
